Making a Positive Difference In Your Life

More than tabloid frenzy: some takeaway points from Brangelina

Lawyers at a proven divorce law firm see an expanding universe of family-centric problems and concerns over time.

Understandably, many of those revolve around children and what relevant laws can do to optimally promote their best interests. Child custody is obviously a huge deal in many divorce matters (visitation, parenting plans, modifications and so forth). So too is child support.

In fact, we stress on our website at the tenured Little Rock family law firm of Robertson, Oswalt & Associates that child support is often “one of the biggest issues” for divorcing Arkansas parents. We note that it “can seem tumultuous” and serve a “a huge source of family discord.”

Money-linked matters will do that. What is a truly reasonable amount of support necessary to take care of the kids and their varied needs? What can a parent afford to pay? When does an existing support-ordered outlay reasonably become questioned as inadequate or unsustainable and arguably become ripe for a court modification?

Those are fair and fundamental questions in many divorces.

Including the ongoing dissolution of A-list celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the globally known Brangelina team that is seemingly powerless in disappearing even momentarily from media headlines.

You might have child support issues in your divorce. So do Brad and Angelina. In fact, Jolie recently filed court papers concerning Pitt’s support outlays. She says they have not been meaningful and that she has been unfairly shouldering the financial burden thus far.

Unsurprisingly, Pitt strongly disputes that, with his legal team seeming ready to counter with an aggressive response. As one article on the spat notes, Jolie will now have to augment her demand for more money with greater public disclosure of her own income. That decidedly introduces a loss-of-privacy component into the dispute.

Although many of the Brangelina divorce details are writ large, they are still based on concerns commonly shared by legions of divorcing couples.

Their highly chronicled dispute can in fact even be seen as an educational primer on select key elements of the divorce process, such as judicial evaluation of support.

Questions or concerns regarding that subject or any other divorce-linked matter can be addressed to a proven family law attorney.
