October spotlights serious national problem of domestic abuse

It is "never acceptable."

That is the delivered take on domestic violence issued recently by President Trump in a White House-authored proclamation denoting October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The president's recent communication closely mirrors that of former American leaders weighing in on the subject. Domestic abuse is a flat scourge wherever it features across the country, and the White House spotlights the problem and efforts to combat it in its annual October comments.

To promote a clear perspective on the sheer dimensions of family violence that exist nationally, the administration's announcement notes that, "Nearly 1 in 4 American women aged 18 and older have been the victim of physical violence by an intimate partner."

That is of course a frightening statistic, and one that is further roiled by the reality that legions of children -- and male victims, too -- also bear the brunt of physical violence and other forms of domestic abuse.

The family law attorneys at Robertson, Oswalt & Associates work out of multiple law offices across Arkansas helping to protect and fully promote the legal interests of our valued clients involved in domestic abuse matters.

One core reality we know about that area of legal conflict from long experience is that the "facts" surrounding a domestic violence matter can be both complex and contested.

That is, while individuals often indeed suffer from violent behaviors inflicted by partners and other individuals, it is also sometimes the case -- as we note on our website -- that abuse allegations can arise "when one party seeks to gain an advantage" in a family law matter.

There is equal need of diligent legal assistance for both an individual legitimately seeking an order of protection against domestic violence and a person who is contesting such an order because it is grounded in false accusations.

A proven family law attorney can serve as a strong advocate in both those instances.
