Making a Positive Difference In Your Life

Firefighter accused of murder claims he acted in self defense

Have you ever been involved in a situation in which your version of events did not match that given by other people? If you have, then you know how frustrating this can be, especially if that story means the difference between proving your innocence and sending you to prison.

This is exactly the problem facing a 40-year-old Texas resident who has been charged with second-degree murder here in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The criminal charges came after the man flagged down a police officer and told them that he had been beaten and had stabbed a man while defending himself. Unfortunately for this veteran firefighter, this isn't the story that was told to investigators by the two other people near the scene.

According to the two individuals, they had picked up the 40-year-old man in a car and were allegedly planning on smoking marijuana with him when a fight broke out. The two witnesses claim it was at this point that the firefighter stabbed the 23-year-old man who later died at the hospital.

As with so many other criminal cases here in Arkansas, the 40-year-old man is faced with the very real problem of "he said, she said." In his version of events, he simply accepted a ride from a woman when he was suddenly jumped by two men in the backseat of a car. When they began beating him, he tried to defend himself, eventually stabbing the man in the neck. But with the two other people painting a different picture, the man could find himself at the mercy of a justice system that could put stock in the wrong version of events.
