It is a divorce that has been one and a half years in the making, but Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian are finally divorced. The Associated Press announced the divorce was finalized earlier this week after a judge approved the divorce settlement. After only 72 days of marriage, Kardashian filed for divorce in October 2011.

The divorce comes after Humphries insisted on the marriage ending via annulment, claiming the marriage was a fraud. Kardashian, however, wanted the marriage to end through the much more common route of divorce. In this final round of settlements Humphries was not present, though the judge did believe the former couple had come to an agreement and was ready to finalize the settlement. All that remains is for Kardashian and Humphries to sign the papers.

Theirs was a divorce that certainly grabbed headlines and one that many people in Little Rock likely followed. That kind of divorce, a long, drawn-out process, is not just for stars, however. There are many couples in Arkansas and across the country whose divorces make the Kardashian-Humphries divorce look short.

There are a variety of reasons why a divorce may not be easily resolved, but an experienced divorce attorney can help to expedite the process. Divorce attorneys are able to communicate with their clients and with each other, ensuring that hostile or extremely emotional former spouses need not get in contact with each other. They can also help move their clients closer to a divorce settlement that will help to end a marriage.
