Making a Positive Difference In Your Life

Senator Pryor and wife show Arkansas how to have amicable split

When most people in Pulaski County think of divorce, they think of drawn out battles, high emotions, underhanded and bitter moves, and lots and lots of court. Not every divorce needs to be like that, however. In fact, many people in Pulaski County and across Arkansas are ending their marriages in uncontested divorces, cutting out as much of the negative parts of a separation as possible.

Thought it is not entirely clear that Senator Mark Pryor and his wife's divorce is uncontested, it does appear that their separation and divorce has been relatively amicable. Though his wife was the one who filed for divorce in Pulaski County court, it appears the two have already created an agreement on how to divide their marital property and debts, who will pay what for child support, and who will have custody of their one minor child.

The senator and his wife have been married for 20 years this past July and have an 18-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter. The girl's mother will be have primary physical custody of her, but both of her parents will ultimately share custody.

Whether it is their extremely public profiles and lives or the fact that their daughter is nearly an adult and, thus, decisions of child custody and child support are only relevant for one more year, or because Pryor and his wife are truly parting ways in relatively good spirits, they are setting an example of how divorce can be. Divorce need not be an ugly and tragic event; rather, it can be just one more step in life.
